Dancing On My Own
Robyn
“Dancing On My Own,” Robyn. Poor Robyn. Dumped and depressed about it, Robyn insists on visiting her ex at the local club. Standing in the corner, she watches him kiss a new girl. With nothing left to lose, she dances alone. What I love about this song — beyond its lush synths and big, bouncy immediacy — is the way Robyn’s vocal manages to convey so much pathos. Amid clattering 4/4 beats, Robyn’s voice is a wounded cry in the dark. This is my favorite pop song of the year so far. Now someone get the girl a drink. (download)
