Angelo

Here’s something no one would mistake for adult contemporary: EMA, with a B-side for her thrilling “Marked,” an adventurous new song called “Angelo.” Against a beat as steady as a shark’s gaze, EMA’s singsong cadence masks a growing threat — an escalating sonic dare: “When you’re wasted, when you’re at the show, young and faithless, thinking they can take us, tell me what the stakes are, show me what you’re made of!” I was hooked after a minute or two, and then comes a verse from Oakland rapper (sigh) Mz’Gorjis, unexpected but totally welcome. This is what Sleigh Bells should have been. (via)
